Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters, devices used in the prevention of pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs), may cause dangerous, life-threatening complications. If you had a temporary or permanent IVC filter implanted and suffered from health problems, you could be entitled to compensation.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received over 1,600 adverse event reports associated with IVC filters. According to the FDA, IVC filter complications may include device migration, filter fracture, tilting within the inferior vena cava, movement of the filter or fracture fragments to the heart or lungs, and perforation of the inferior vena cava vein. Additionally, IVC filters that are meant to be retrievable can become embedded in the vein and may be difficult or even impossible to remove.
